JB - I agree with you on human rights. But, can you please tell me if you have an iPhone? Or any Apple product for that matter? If yes, it was likely made by FoxConn, one of those companies that has a slight worker suicide problem, where they house 100's of thousands of workers and they earn peanuts. Or do you own an HP? Possibly an Acer, Asus or Dell? Guess what, all made in China by the same or similar company. And your TV? What about your sneakers? Even New Balance makes shoes in China and Vietnam now. Remember, Nike and Apple are design and marketing companies and do not manufacture or assemble a single product - they hire contract manufacturers so they can pass blame if something hits the fan.

OK, great, I agree, plastic bags are not a good thing. But let's look back when the tree-huggers embraced plastic bags to save forests. So now stores are forced to go back to paper bags. Is this a good or better thing, Dr. Singer? I disagree with you in that they are not being re-used. We use them to line our garbage cans in the kitchen and for our recycling. If we don't have these grocery bags then we will need to buy garbage bags...so which is the lesser evil?

Good for you, Richard! What qualities are you speaking of? That she's never had a real job? That she is a pocketbook liberal who lives in Marin County? That she supports illegal immigrants having a driver's license? I personally think giving your friendly illegal a license to drive a great thing, don't you?

I am so pleased and proud to have Barbara Boxer as one of our Senators.
She is a terrific Senator and truly represents the very best qualities that
anyone would want from all persons in office. I have followed her work since
the 1990's and admire her work as she always strives to do what is best for us.
I will pray for her continued good health. Way to go, beautiful lady.

Republican Mayors in Idaho and Indiana are allowing in Communist State Owned Enterprises, more likely than not because they received illegal funding.

The proliferation of wasted plastics represents both a waste of valuable petrochemicals, and a non-biodegradable environmental scourge. Among the chief contributors to this problem is the rate of wasted plastics resulting from the use of plastic grocery bags. The elimination of plastic grocery bags can have widespread effects, therefor, on the environment as well as the economy. Plastic grocery store bags are usually not reused because they are thin, small, weak, and often have small holes which make them unsuitable for wet wastes. By removing this small and wasteful convenience, consumers are encouraged to use cloth bags which can be reused thousands of times, which are stronger and more reliable for food transportation, and which save the consumer money in the long run by decreasing the overhead costs of grocery stores. Moreover, by eliminating this thoroughly inefficient product we reduce the waste of petrochemicals which continue to raise in cost due to their decreasing availability. In the end, reusable cloth grocery bags are more cost-effective, less wasteful, and better at performing the task for which they are manufactured (they also represent the solution you were demanding of Lawrence, and I would imagine that the reason he didn't bring them up is that you'd have to be living under a rock to not know about them). While I genuinely feel for the problems you've seemed to encounter at the loss of your cherished plastic grocery bags, I would point out that those problems are the result of your own failure to recognize an obvious solution. I can imagine your parents had a rough time convincing you to use the toilet rather than just going in your convenient diaper, or breaking you of the habit of sucking your pacifier. It's inconvenient, but part of growing up is learning the importance of being responsible. Good luck, I can tell you'll need it.

A good thing for who? Us or the workers in those factories where they get beat with rods, live in the factory, work 14 hour shifts?
Low cast is awesome. I love it. But I will pay more to support companies that don't treat employees like dirt. Sorry. Human rights above my wallet. And though I sound like a bleeding heart liberal, I always vote Republican.

Lindsey - Even amongst Republicans there is no firm agreement. The loudmouths who sent me hate mail seem to think that any control of weaponry is a step too far. Should we then be able to own a bazooka? An M-16? Hell, what about an M-50? The line needs to be drawn what is needed for self-protection and hunting, versus what is just plain absurd.

Well, Lawrence, please tell me what is not logical? Should we hand-carry our groceries home? Instead of critique, offer a solution.

It is a really really loooong response but as the commercial once asked, "where's the beef," Lawrence?

BTW I took Environmental Science in the 12th grade at GWHS in San Francisco!
